Aquatic Ecology at Gratiot Lake Summer Youth Program

Do you know a curious budding wildlife biologist? Do they enjoy hiking, camping, swimming, and learning? Every year the Michigan Tech Summer Youth Program and Gratiot Lake Conservancy (GLC) give up to eight high school students the chance to experience the conservancy first hand and learn about aquatic ecology.

2018 Aquatic Ecology at Gratiot Lake Summer Youth Expedition!

2018 Aquatic Ecology at Gratiot Lake Summer Youth Expedition!

They spend a week living in a rustic log cabin at Gratiot Lake in the heart of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Live the life of an ecologist as you collect and analyze aquatic invertebrates, compare water chemistry data, and learn how much fun hands-on ecology can be. Students will be immersed in ecological exploration, canoeing, discovering how to identify invertebrates, and more.

This is one of many programs GLC uses to educate new stewards of the land. GLC awards a full scholarship from the Jack Sandretto Memorial Scholarship Fund to one local Keweenaw high school student each year. To learn more click here.
